Matt Balanda

Matt grew up at Calvary Tucson and always had a heart for teaching with his most recent role as Assistant Children’s Pastor at the church. He gave his life to the Lord at a young age at Calvary’s Vacation Bible School and continued serving in Children’s Ministry as an adult. Matt graduated from the University of Arizona in 2013 with degrees in Aerospace Engineering and Mathematics but was led to teaching as a career. After spending all of his time in secular education, Matt felt called to minister in a new way—in Christian education at Calvary Chapel Christian Schools. His heart is to disciple students into a closer relationship with God and to teach them to go out and disciple others. This year he serves as the High School Vice-Principal.

Debby Beneze (aka Mrs. B)

Debby was born in Michigan and raised in a Christian home, but it was not until her mid-30’s that she accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior. In the fall of 2015, Debby and her husband, Tom, moved to Tucson from southern Colorado where she had worked in the local public high school for eight years. This will be her fourth year as a teacher at Calvary Chapel High School.

Outside the field of education, Debby also worked professionally for many years as an energy accountant and in the area of non-profit management. Both she and Tom served as volunteers for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Colorado, partnering together to help grant dozens of favorite wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions. Debby loves to travel and has visited many countries, not just as a tourist, but as a member of mission trips to Ciudad Juarez, Mexico; San Juan, Puerto Rico and southern Spain. The Benezes have five grown children between them and four adorable grandchildren.

Mrs. B states, “I am committed to give my very best to instruct, inspire, motivate and encourage my students.
