Methodology & Curriculum


CCCS curriculum features a traditional, well-balanced core of essential subjects:

  • CCCS follows the time-proven educational building blocks of Proverbs (knowledge, understanding, wisdom).
  • All subjects are presented cumulatively, with each lesson building upon previously acquired knowledge and understanding.
  • Memorization, drills, repetition, and comprehension are emphasized in the lower grades.

Phonics and Reading – ABeka

Students will learn recognition of name, sound, and picture of long and short vowels and consonants. They will also be sounding out blends, one and two-vowel words, and words with special sounds. Students will learn beginning phonics rules and special sounds. Finally, they will be reading sentences and stories from twelve books containing one and two-vowel words and special sounds.

Language – ABeka

Students will learn recognition of sentences by capital letters and periods. They will also be phonetically writing their own sentences, writing letters, and writing blends and sentences.

Math - Saxon

Students will learn multiple topics which are grouped into nine strands. They are numbers and operations, measurement, geometry, patterns, algebra and functions, statistics, data analysis, probability, problem solving, communication, mathematical reasoning, and connections.

Bible – Positive Action for Christ Learning About God - 

In this study, kindergarteners will learn about God through the lives of major characters throughout the Bible. With activities designed to reinforce lessons, this colorful curriculum can help students comprehend and apply Bible truths.

Bible - Positive Action for Christ

Enjoying God's Gifts - Students will learn that all we have comes from God and that the ultimate gift that God gave us is His Son, Jesus Christ. Stories from everyday life are used to encourage the development of specific character traits.

Phonics and Reading – ABeka


Students will review vowels, consonants, blends, one and two-vowel words, and consonant blends. They will also learn recognition and use of all phonics special sounds in reading. Students will also learn spelling rules such as doubling consonants, dropping silent e, and changing y to i. Finally, students will learn how to read orally.

Language - ABeka, Writer's Workshop

Students will learn to capitalize the first word in a sentence, proper names, days of the week, and months of the year. They will also learn how to use correct punctuation at the end of sentences. Students will learn recognition of complete sentences and how to use and identify words using suffixes, prefixes, syllables, compound words, rhyming words, opposite words, same meaning words, and contractions. They will learn alphabetizing of words. Finally, students will learn how to write in complete sentences, how to write a short story, and creative writing.

Math – Saxon

Students will learn multiple topics which are grouped into nine strands. They are numbers and operations, measurement, geometry, patterns, algebra and functions, statistics, data analysis, probability, problem solving, communication, mathematical reasoning, and connections.

Science - Purposeful Design

Purposeful Design explores God's creation through the study of animals, ecosystems, habitats, and classification. Students will also learn about energy, work, motion, matter, force, machines, the lithosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and astronomy. Finally, the students will dive into the human body and learn the senses, nervous system, digestive system, cardiovascular system, health. 

History – Bob Jones

Students will learn civics, culture, economics, geography, Christmas around the world, Native Americans, homes and families of the time, and much more. Beginning with the framework of God's redemptive plan, students will dive into an age-appropriate study of civics and government and then cover United States history from Native Americans to the Plymouth Colony—all from the perspective of a Christian worldview. Students will also contrast the past and the present, noting changes that have taken place in the way we live.

Bible - Positive Action for Christ
Finding God's Promises - Students will learn that when God gives a command, He also gives a promise. Second graders will begin to see how obedience to God's commands brings blessings as God fulfills His promises in their lives.

English – Shurley Grammar, Excellence in Writing

In Shurley Grammar, students will learn several parts of speech and how to use it. They will learn a well-defined system of classifying sentences, a clear and structured method for writing sentences, and definition jingles that will stay with them for life.

In Excellence in Writing students will learn note taking and outlines, how to summarize from notes, how to write a narrative story, how to summarize a one source reference, how to write from pictures, how to write multiple library research reports, how to write creatively with structure, how to write a formal essay, and how to write a formal critique. Students will also learn how to apply what they learned in grammar to their writing.

History - Bob Jones

Take students back to the founding of the United States—from Jamestown through the War for Independence—while explaining Colonial farming, shop keeping, clothing, and kings and queens.

Math – Saxon, ABeka

Students will learn multiple topics which are grouped into nine strands. They are numbers and operations, measurement, geometry, patterns, algebra and functions, statistics, multiplication and division facts, elapsed time, comparisons, fractions, data analysis, probability, problem solving, communication, mathematical reasoning, and connections.

Science - Purposeful Design

Purposeful Design explores God's creation through the study of vertebrates, invertebrates, plants, ecosystems, habitats, and classification. Students will also learn about energy, work, motion, matter, force, the lithosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and astronomy. Finally, the students will dive into the human body and learn the senses, nervous system, digestive system, skin, health, and diseases and disorder. 

Reading – Bob Jones, ABeka, Accelerated Reader

Students will read poems, plays, stories about nature and animals, historical events, moralistic stories, fables, stories of American patriots, and stories relating to the Bible. Students will continue to learn the 44 phonics rules, grow in oral reading and fluency, and work on vocabulary and comprehension skills. Students will also transition into the Accelerated Reader program at their own reading level.

Growing with God - Students will grow and develop strong character as they draw upon the experiences of these four biblical hero's-Abraham, Jacob, Joseph and Daniel.

Students will learn about many of our nations famous Americans such as George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, William Penn, Pocahontas, Benjamin Franklin, Christopher Columbus, and much more. Students will learn U.S. Geography, World War 1, the Revolutionary War, and the Constitution.

Math – Saxon Intermediate 3

Students will learn multiple topics which are grouped into nine strands. They are numbers and operations, measurement, geometry, patterns, algebra and functions, statistics, data analysis, probability, problem solving, communication, mathematical reasoning, and connections.

Science - ABeka

ABeka explores God's creation through the study of vertebrates, invertebrates, plants, and types of ecosystems and habitats. Students will also learn about weather, storms, and the water cycle. Finally, students will dive into the human body and learn the senses, nervous system, and health.

Reading - ABeka, Accelerated Reader, Novels

Students will dive into many classic stories, Bible stories, and favorites like Paddington Bear and Winnie the Pooh. They will travel to the New World with Edward, a nine-year-old Pilgrim boy. Encounter the dangers of the wilderness and see the preserving hand of God. Students will also be growing in reading comprehension, phonics skills, and at the same time take in character-building stories that demonstrate biblical truth and timeless virtues. Students will also take part in the Accelerated Reading program.

Students will read the following novels: Stone Fox, Charlotte's Web, and Sarah, Plain and Tall.

Bible - Positive Action for Christ
Building Life Castles - Students will study the New Testament, focusing on the life of Christ, the work of the Holy Spirit, the life and writings of Paul.

English – Saxon Grammar, Excellence in Writing

In Saxon Grammar, students will learn several parts of speech and how to use it. They will learn a well-defined system of classifying sentences, a clear and structured method for writing sentences, and learning strategies that will stay with them for life. Topics covered include: types of sentences, capitalization, subject and predicate, the predicate nominative, indirect objects, phrases and clauses, proper adjectives, appositives, progressive verbs, antecedents, and more.

In Excellence in Writing students will learn note taking and outlines, how to summarize from notes, how to write a narrative story, how to summarize a one source reference, how to write from pictures, how to write multiple library research reports, how to write creatively with structure, how to write a formal essay, and how to write a formal critique. Students will also learn how to apply what they learned in grammar to their writing.

Math - Saxon 5/4

Math 5/4 simultaneously develops the five basic strands of mathematics: number sense/operations, statistics/probability, algebra, geometry/measurement, and logic. The specific intent of Math 5/4 is to guarantee that K-3 foundational skills are solidly in place while solidifying skills in division and introducing the concepts of computing with fractions, decimals, and percentage.

History - Bob Jones

Bring to life great movements and events in American history from the late 1700s through the early 1900s. The lessons examine immigration, evangelists, missionaries, inventions, the Industrial Revolution, the Boer War, the Boxer Uprising, Economics, and U.S. Geography.

Reading - Bob Jones, Accelerated Reader, ABeka, Novels

Prepare your child with classic literature excerpts, character-building stories, essays, poems, and activities that develop research, literary skills (setting, map reading, main idea, syllable patterns, moral of stories, fact and opinion, propaganda, encyclopedias, and more). Students will learn to recognize character growth and change, relate story content to Biblical truth, predict outcomes, determine cause-and-effect relationships, use context cues to determine word meaning, sequence events of a plot, identify conflict, recall facts and details, draw conclusions, note elements of setting, identify problems and solutions, and much more. Students will develop comprehension skills in all areas (critical, analytical, interpretative, and appreciative).

Students will also take part in Accelerated Reader.

Students will read and study the following novels: Swiss Family Robinson, Cricket in Times Square, My Side of the Mountain, Maniac Magee, and Sign of the Beaver.

Science - Bob Jones

Science 4 focuses on life in God's creation, it studies living things, insects and spiders, plants, forces and machines, electricity and magnetism, light, the moon, water and oceans, weathering and erosion, Earth's resources, digestion, bones, and muscles.

Bible - Positive Action for Christ

Possessing the Land - As God desired His people to possess the land of Canaan, so He desires His children to live in a spiritual realm of promise and victory. The students will gain a clearer perspective of how the stories of the Old Testament fit together into one pattern.

English – Saxon Grammar, Excellence in Writing

In Saxon Grammar, students will learn several parts of speech and how to use it. They will learn a well-defined system of classifying sentences, a clear and structured method for writing sentences, and learning strategies that will stay with them for life. Topics covered include simple subjects & predicates; action verbs; irregular plural nouns, spelling rules, diagramming direct objects, capitalization, conjunctions, pronouns, subject-verb agreement, and more.

In Excellence in Writing students will learn note taking and outlines, how to summarize from notes, how to write a narrative story, how to summarize a one source reference, how to write from pictures, how to write multiple library research reports, how to write creatively with structure, how to write a formal essay, and how to write a formal critique. Students will also learn how to apply what they learned in grammar to their writing.

History - Bob Jones

Students acquire a foundational understanding of the roots of contemporary United States struggles and the blossoming of American enterprise from the early 1900s to the present.

Math - Saxon 6/5

Math 6/5 simultaneously develops the five basic strands of mathematics: number sense/operations, statistics/probability, algebra, geometry/measurement, and logic. The specific intent of Math 6/5 is the emphasizing the comprehensive study of operations with fractions and decimals.

Reading - Bob Jones, Accelerated Reader, Novels, ABeka

Students strengthen their reading and critical thinking skills as they study classic literature excerpts, character-building stories, and poems. Students will learn to recognize character growth and change, relate story content to Biblical truth, predict outcomes, determine cause-and-effect relationships, use context cues to determine word meaning, sequence events of a plot, identify conflict, recall facts and details, draw conclusions, note elements of setting, identify problems and solutions, and much more. Students will develop comprehension skills in all areas (critical, analytical, interpretative, and appreciative).

Science 5 focuses on man's use of God's creation and design and studies minerals and rocks, fossils, matter and heat, sound and light, weather, biomes, ecosystems, and the respiratory and circulatory systems.
